Margarita, with a Straw is a 2015 Indian film starring Kalki Koechlin[3] directed by Shonali Bose. Kalki plays the character of a girl with Cerebral palsy[4] and the movie talks about her struggle with the normal activities in her life. Margarita, with a Straw is one of the five projects selected for the Work In Progress Lab of Film Bazaar 2013[5][6] The film made its world premiere on 8 September 2014 as part of the Contemporary World Cinema Programme at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.[7][8][9] The film is expected to have a national release in India in 2015.[10]

Plot

Laila (Kalki Koechelin), is a woman wheelchair user with cerebral palsy. She is also a student at Delhi University, and an aspiring writer, writes lyrics and creates electronic sounds for an indie band at the university. She gets admitted to New York University, and moves with her mother (Revathy). Living in Manhattan, she falls in love with a fiery young activist, Khanum (Sayani Gupta). Thus she embarks on a journey of sexual discovery which hinders the relationships between her family and friends. [7][9]
